My trip to amsterdam was booked for my boyfriends 40th Birthday - I had picked the Bilderberg hotel because I wanted the weekend to be special and to stay somewhere that had its own character and personal service - I could not fault the hotel, it is above the average room rate but you get a high quality hotel with excellent service. I read that some of the rooms can be quite small so I planned ahead and upgraded to one of their superior rooms - the breakfast was fantastic and the bar areas are a lovely place to come back to and relax after a day out in amsterdam. The surrounding area was beautiful, you have the Van Gough museum a stones throw from the hotel and a row of fabulous designer shops just round the corner for anyone who like to window shop. We spent saturday walking around amsterdam and sampling the bars, the beauty of this city is that everything is in easy reach and you don't need to take public transport to get to the key destinations, although the tram system is cheap and easy to use. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is thinking of a special treat in amsterdam and can't fault the city in providing a very memorable weekend

The Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken Hotel is situated very close to the Van Gogh museum and Riksmuseum. A beautiful hotel, although the bedroom and bathroom were very small (but well appointed. On arrival (and before we had even seen the room) we were offered a larger room for an extra 50 euros a night, but declined. Public transport is excellent and cheap. Trams are regular and cost 1 euro 60 cents. Vondel Park is worth a visit. Above the film museum is a fantastic terrace to sit, drink and eat. Amsterdam is very walkable and the canal make it very pleasant with plenty of bars and restaurants.
